John Sutherland Earle - piano
Péter Tornyai - violin
Beáta Trubin - soprano

CEU Professor John Sutherland Earle returns to the Popper Room with a Schubertiade, an all Schubert program including the great “Fantasy Sonata” as well as collaborative works with violin and soprano. Professor Earle studied music at Oberlin Conservatory, Stanford University, and the Vienna Hochschule fűr Musik, and he has performed in several countries of Europe, more than a dozen states of the US, and in Russia and Japan. He has taught labor economics and microeconomics at the CEU Economics Department since its very beginning in August 1991.

Péter Tornyai (violinist/violist) is also an outstanding composer: he won first prize in the chamber music category of the 2011 New Hungarian Music Forum. As an active chamber musician, he performs widely in Hungary and abroad.

The excellent coloratura-soprano debuted in 1992 in the Hungarian State Opera as The Queen of Night under the baton of Peter Maag after her triumph in I. International Singing Competition in Budapest. After her studies in Graz she sang in Birtwistle's Punch and Judy in Graz Opera in 1999, and since then she have portrayed such roles like Lucia di Lammermoor, Gilda, Konstanze, Olympia, Zerbinetta and Sophie. She sang The Queen of Night through several season in Hungarian State Opera and in National Theater of Szeged she had great successes as Lucia and Titania (Britten: The Midsummer Night Dream). She performed R. Strauss's Four Last Song in Bayreuth with the preparation with the great Wagner-tenor, Manfred Jung.
